Library News's blog
Dig into fun this summer during our "Dig into Reading" children's summer reading program! Special entertainers, crafts and storytimes are based on this year's underground theme. Events kick off with a puppet show by the Clement McCrae Puppet Company June 3rd & 4th. Other highlights are storyteller Priscilla Howe, WildHeart musical duo, musician Rick Rayburn and Casey's Creatures. For dates and times, check our full listing of events.
The reading incentive portion of the program is open to children from birth through grade 6. Children who can not yet read may have books read to them. Any book, magazine, or even an audiobook counts. Children can register and track their reading progress at either branch of the library or online!
The bookmobile is finally here! First stop: the Apple Blossom Parade on May 4. Next will be "open busses" for the public at both branches on Wednesday, May 15. Then after a few months of work hiring staff, establishing routes, and stocking the bus, it will take to the road!
"The bookmobile is a very versatile mode of providing services to patrons for the library," library director Barb Read said. "We can put targeted collections on board for the stops, including children's books for elementary school days and lots of large print books for nursing homes. We also have plans of bringing storytimes and craft projects with the bookmobile to festivals and in June we plan to load it with used books for a book sale at the Savannah Branch. The bookmobile will truly give us the ability to bring more library services to more people."
The 2001 Blue Bird diesel bookmobile will take to the roads to serve patrons in Andrew and Buchanan counties later this year once it has been rebranded for Rolling Hills Library. Tour the bookmobile at noon on May 15 at the Belt Branch and at 3:30pm May 15 at the Savannah Branch.
